It is important to get feedback from your audience so that improvements can be made to improve the overall interest in the film, it also allows you to see how affective you campaign has gotten and to make sure it is aimed at the right target audience. The idea for audience feedback is to remove yourself from the work and allow an entirely new audience to experience it, some people will be biased to their own work and unable to see where improvements can be made and others may be too judgmental because they have spent so much time working on it and watched it so often. Another important aspect is that we know the entire plot as we made it up, others do not so its interesting to know if enough of the plot is given away for them to be interested even though they have no existing idea of the story line.
The feedback from the horror trailer we got by showing the finished product to my A2 media studies class, made up of 10-15 students aged between 17-21. Each person after viewing the trailer would give us at least one thing they like about the trailer and one thing they though could be improved or done differently. They usually commented on both a horror genre and teaser trailer conventions.
From the feedback we received it seems that a lot of the audience liked the music for the trailer saying it fitted really well with what was on screen and the timing but it was also mentioned that the sounds themselves they liked. One example was the music when the antagonist was on the computer, it was said that the music fitted really well here as it gave a sinister feel. The music wasn't the only part of the soundtrack the audience enjoyed with a few people commenting on the voice over ,again saying it was timed well and helped with demonizing the antagonist, making him seem more evil and adds a small amount to help with the story. whispering again saying it was timed well and helped with the idea of the protagonist being helpless as well as her being innocent. and the sound effects. The rest of the comments were fairly individual with only one or two people mentioning the same things such as the shot of the swinging light, saying they felt it had a disorienting effect and as its on the ceiling gave the feeling of being on the floor and it feeling like a point of view shot. The shot of birds eye view of running was another individual good point made, they said they enojyed as it was original and rarely seen.
Overall our trailer had some very hit and miss aspects, something one person disliked others enjoyed making it difficult when deciding whether or not to change something. Our main improvement in the trailer was the inter-titles, people dislike them more than any other aspect, they said they were too fuzzy and didn't really fit the horror conventions which i agreed with. We had difficulty deciding on a font that had an orignal look but fitted with the horror conventions. Five people in the class mentioned how they disliked the inter titles so they were changed to something we felt was more fitting. Another dislike was the heartbeat at the end, some said it was too loud and too long so we shorted it and lowered the sound, this was a hard decision as some people said that it was one of the things they liked about it.
More detail needed here Dale. Write more fully about each of your points and explain the reasons for people's comments. For example why did people like the music when the antagonist was on the computer? Do remember that this is A2 level work and therefore needs to be thorough and also to show your understanding of the issues. You had feedback on the product as an example of the horror genre and the product as a piece of advertising i.e. a trailer. Write about both areas.
